Bexley Community Foundation Announces First Grants of 2016, Including Largest Grant in Foundation History

The Bexley Community Foundation today announced the awarding of three grants totaling $99,000 to the Bexley Celebrations Association, the City of Bexley, and the Bexley Recreation and Parks Department.

The Bexley Community Foundation began its grants program in the fall of 2011 with five grants totaling $7,530.  Since then, it has awarded 73 grants totaling over $725,000.  The Foundation expects to award over $150,000 in grants during 2016.

The three Grants announced today fund the following projects:

An $81,000 grant, the Foundation’s largest to date, to the Bexley Recreation and Parks Department for the Alum Creek Park Athletic Fields. The grant will fund the development of a 1.5 acre athletic field, parking lot with lighting, connection to the Alum Creek Pathway (a project also funded by the Foundation), a playground, bike racks, portable restroom facilities, trash receptacles, and emergency call boxes.

“The Recreation and Parks Department is ecstatic to have the Alum Creek Athletic Field Project selected to receive such a substantial grant from the Bexley Community Foundation,” Michael Price, Recreation and Parks Director said.  “Development of the Alum Creek Park Athletic Fields represents the first substantial addition of community park space in Bexley since 1941 with the Jeffrey family donation of Jeffrey Park. We can’t thank the Bexley Community Foundation enough for their support of a project that will have such an amazing impact on our community for generations to come.”

A $10,000 grant to the City of Bexley will build a stairway to provide a point of access from Main Street to the Alum Creek Park Pathway, also funded by a Foundation grant in 2014. The pathway can currently be accessed from Astor Avenue and provides a beautiful trail along Alum Creek on the east side of the creek.

An $8,000 grant to the Bexley Celebrations Association will support this year’s 4th of July Celebration.  The Bexley Community Foundation will be the Presenting Sponsor of the July 4th evening events on the lawn of Capital University.
